Problem: An agreement recipient waits until the day prior to expiration to sign the document. The signing day is a weekend or holiday. The company executive designated to countersign the agreement opens the document on the next business day. The document has expired. The sender must cancel the document, place it in edit mode, extend the expiration date, and reach out to the client to resign the document. The process is an inconvenience for the client, creates a problem for documents that must be signed by a specific date, and may cause the client to rethink and not sign the agreement. The whole process makes the sender look unprofessional.
Issue: Once the document has been signed by either party, Panda Doc will not allow changes to the expiration date.
Recommendation: Allow the sender to extend the expiration date up to the point where the document is deemed "completed." Once the document has been signed by all parties, lock the document. Until that point, allow the sender to extend the expiration date, avoiding this awkward situation.
Comment: I see the first post was January 26, 2021. We are approaching two years. We consider this issue a programming flaw not a feature enhancement. The lock function was not vetted all the way. I think I speak for the 133 upvotes that precedes me that we are asking for urgent consideration for a fix.

Document search is a fundamental feature of every document program I have ever used.... going all the way back to the days of DOS. Now, I am dating myself. Yes. I am almost 100.
We are requesting both search within a document and search and replace within a document regardless of the document status. In other words, the same function should work on "completed" documents.
Panda Doc product managers must escalate fundamental program requirement requests like search and search and replace to the top of the development roadmap regardless of the vote count.
Alvin Jorge originally shared this request way back on April 29, 2020. That's a long time for a fundamental request to sit idol. Please pass our comments to senior product management. Robert Madsen (Panda Doc Evangelist and Influencer)

Agree with Thomas with an added option. Only the PandaDoc super admin can unlock a Completed document with multi-factor authentication. In other words, only one person can unlock a Completed document and with a thoughtful process preventing mistakes.
