Document sent variable that auto-populates

Is it possible to have a "date sent" variable as opposed to a date created?

Have a variable that updates when a document is sent. There seems to only be a create date variable I believe? If I create a document on the 1st but send it out on the 5th, the sent variable would update.

A date sent would be great, or allow us to just update the document Created Date, which then updates the Created Date variable throughout the document.
